BLACK BAMBOOS

‘Black Bamboo’ Phyllostachys nigra
This bamboo is a hardy runner which is the most popular bamboo cultivated in the United States. It grows to 15-30′ feet high. It is an excellent privacy screen or container plant and can give the garden a delicate and beautiful backdrop. It makes a beautiful grove with proper containment.
It can survive high heat and temperatures to -05 degrees. We have different forms and varieties which range from mottled Leopard Skin ‘Bory’ to a deep black ‘Folsom Black’.
‘Timor Black’- Bambusa lako ‘Timor Black’
‘Timor Black’ or Lako’ is a beautiful shiny clumping black bamboo from the Indonesian island of Timor that grows to 40′ with scattered green stripes. This bamboo is not very cold or wind tolerant, and is much better suited to warm sheltered sites.
‘Tropical Black’- Gigantachloa atroviolacea
‘Tropical’ or ‘Java’ Black is a clumping bamboo native to Java, Indonesia and is closely related to the Bambusa lako. It is a little tougher than than the ‘Timor Black’. It produces top quality black bamboo poles.
Both of these bamboos are standouts in the landscape.
