Dwarf White Stripe Bamboo
Pleioblastus chino vaginitus variegatus
Our original specimen came from the yard Oliver “Jolly Batcheller the Chair of the Department of Horticulture at Cal Poly Pomona from 1946-1970. It has stayed low growing, four feet maximum in the ten years we have been growing it. It differs from the type by its smaller, narrower, white striped leaves, which are hairless on both surfaces. It’s woody stem turns a burgundy color. It is a very attractive container plant and an excellent erosion control or border plant but does require containment if growing in the ground.
